Tracking Your Mistakes: An Effective Study Habit
One of the best strategies I used during OChem and other classes was keeping track of my mistakes. If I noticed a consistent error while studying, I’d jot it down and monitor my progress. This approach helped me stay focused and improve over time.
How to Use This Section:
- Document Your Mistakes
- Start by noting the mistake you’re repeatedly making. For instance, if you’re struggling with carbocation shifts, write it down.
- Identify the Type of Mistake
- Next, specify what kind of mistake it is. Is it a conceptual error, or does it involve a mechanism? Feel free to add other categories based on what you’re encountering.
- Tag the Relevant Chapter
- There’s a section to tag the chapter where the mistake originates. For example, if carbocation shifts are taught in chapter 6, select the chapter 6 tag. You can customize the chapter tags as needed.
- Use the Chapter View
- Above the table, there’s a chapter view option. By clicking on it, you can see all the mistakes you’ve logged for each chapter. This gives you a clear overview of which chapters are giving you the most trouble.
- Track Your Progress with Status Tags
- When you first log a mistake, its status will show as “Confused.” As you work on understanding it, you can change the status to “Learning.” Once you’ve mastered the topic, update it to “Mastered.”
- Once a topic is marked “Mastered,” it will disappear from the main table. Don’t worry, you can still access it by switching to the “Mastered Topics” view, where you’ll find all the concepts you’ve successfully learned.
